Bastarda "Nizozot" 3 CD album - beautifully designed by Jarosław Pawlicki and released by Audio Cave record label.
We used a number of refinements in a discreet way. The discs are hidden in a special box with a dust jacket with the letter "bet" stamped (it can be folded into two different front covers). In addition, spot varnish, matt foil and printing plates with Pantone paints. Black-mat paper with uv lacquer on cover artwork, illustrations are created with traditional and manual art techniques (charcoal and tempera on paper).

Nigunim - melodies, mystical songs without words, and prayers. This Hasidic musical form date back to the 18th/19th century.
On this amazing 3CD album, the BASTARDA ensemble draws on the legacy of nigunim from three of the Hasidic dynasties – Modzitz, Shapiro and Kozhnitz.
The title of the album, Nizozot, is a Hasidic term for the Divine creative act, which can also be understood as any creative act.
It consists of three stages. First, the sparks of love are placed by God in a glass vessel. Then, the vessel breaks, and the sparks are dispersed across the world. All human souls and things created ex nihilo contain these holy sparks, which constitute their origin and life force, their true essence.
The musicians of the Bastarda trio rediscover the universal beauty of Jewish melodies, and at the same time tell their own stories by exploring and filtering traditional songs in the band's signature language. Their original arrangements and recompositions are inspired by the structural and narrative power of nigunim. These are tales of joy and sorrow, of violent struggle and pure spirituality – of life in the full spectrum of sensations and emotions. Tales that seem to embody the essence of Hasidism – always oscillating between anticipation of the end of the world, and a joyful near ecstatic affirmation of life.

Paweł Szamburski (b. 1980) clarinettist and composer with close ties to the Lado ABC music scene. He studied ethnography and musicology at the Warsaw University. Recently Szamburski create such bands as BASTARDA and SzaZa.
He performs solo, composes music for film, theatre, silent movies and radio plays.

The first track is a bit of an outlier, perhaps connecting back to earlier albums where jazz foundations lead the way, before going all out berserk with the beats, beats, and beats. Bass and electronics are now the mainstays over the hip-hop influenced rhythms. But the horns are still layered back in with style. I initially passed this over, but the Szlam / Ścieki tracks blew my socks off and in desperation for more, I was led back to this. I can't wait to see where Błoto go next. rvss.eel
